Organic Basmati Rice

Basmati rice has a typical pandan-like (Pandanusamaryllifolius leaf) flavour caused by the aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. Basmati grains contain about 0.09 ppm of this aromatic chemical compound naturally, a level that is about 12 times more than non-basmati rice varieties, giving basmati its distinctive spicy fragrance and flavour. This natural aroma is also found in cheese, fruit and other cereals. It is a flavoring agent approved in the United States and Europe, and is used in bakery products for aroma. (website) The production of Organic Basmati rice begins in certified organic farms, primarily located in regions with rich alluvial soil and ideal climatic conditions. Farmers follow traditional and sustainable cultivation methods such as crop rotation, natural composting, organic pest management, and chemical-free irrigation. After harvesting, the rice undergoes natural sun-drying, gentle milling, and careful polishing without the use of artificial whiteners, chemical preservatives, or flavor enhancers. At Aryan International Organic Basmati rice is aged for more than a year to enhance its nutrients and flavors as we all know. Basmati rice improves with age and depends entirely on nature for its very special characteristics.

Organic Basmati rice is minimally processed and retains more of its natural nutrients compared to conventionally grown rice. Typical nutritional components include Carbohydrates, Dietary Fibre, Vitamins, Minerals with Low Fat, Zero Additives and Gluten free.

To maintain the aroma, flavour, and texture of Organic Basmati rice proper storage is essential.

Storage Guidelines:

  • Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
    • Keep away from strong odors, as rice grains can absorb surrounding scents.
    • In humid climates, airtight pouches, moisture absorbers, or refrigeration are recommended to prevent spoilage.

Additional Tips:

  • Purchase quantities based on usage, as organic rice has a shorter shelf life due to the absence of additives.
    • Rinse gently before cooking to remove surface starch while preserving nutrients.
    • For best results, soak the rice for 20–30 minutes before cooking to enhance grain length and texture.
    • For commercial or hospitality use, follow supplier guidelines for rinsing, soaking, and cooking ratios.
    • Rotate stock and use older batches before opening new ones.
