Benefits of Cassava Flour

    1. May aid weight loss

Resistant starch in cassava flour may aid weight loss by regulating your appetite and reducing fat mass. Human and animal studies show that when bacteria in your gut digest resistant starch, they produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). These trigger the release of the hunger-reducing hormones peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).

2. Non-Allergenic (Gluten-Free, Grain-Free and Nut-Free)

It is a great choice for gluten-free baking, ideal for people who have gluten sensitivities or disorders. Cassava flour is low in calories, fat, and sugar. Compared with other gluten-free flours, such as coconut or almond, cassava flour has a low fat content. It has a high water content and a lower calorie density than flours like corn, plantain, rice, coconut, sorghum, and wheat.

3. Insulin sensitivity

One study showed that resistant starch can increase a person’s insulin sensitivity. Cassava flour is high in resistant starch. By increasing a person’s insulin sensitivity, resistant starches can play a role in preventing disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Precautions

Cassava is potentially dangerous if processed incorrectly. When raw, it has cyanogenic glycosides that turn into cyanide in the body once eaten. This poisonous compound is significantly reduced when the root is soaked and dried.
